Every family has a recipe that means more than the ingredients written on the page.
Perhaps it is a pasta sauce that has been prepared the same way for generations, a biscuit baked for every family celebration, or a handwritten recipe carefully tucked away in a kitchen drawer. Behind every one of these recipes is a story, a story of migration, family, resilience, love and tradition.
ANFE in collaboration with the Provenance Collective www.theprovenancecollective.com.au are pleased to invite members to participate in The Recipes She Carried, a community heritage project dedicated to preserving the memories, recipes and migration stories of Italian families before they are lost to time.
This project recognises that our heritage is found not only in official records and photographs, but also in the everyday traditions that have shaped our families for generations. The meals we prepare, the recipes we inherited, and the stories shared around the family table all form part of our collective history.
Participating is simple.
You do not need to be a writer or historian. All that is required is a willingness to share a favourite family recipe, a few photographs if you have them, and the story behind them. Through a relaxed and structured interview process, your memories will be carefully recorded and respectfully preserved.
Together, these individual stories will become part of a lasting record of our community's history.
The project brings together recipes, migration stories, family photographs and personal memories into a professionally prepared publication that celebrates the contribution of Italian families and preserves their legacy for future generations.
By participating, you are helping to ensure that the experiences of parents, grandparents and great-grandparents are not forgotten. You are creating something your children, grandchildren and future generations can read with pride, while also contributing to a valuable cultural archive that reflects the history of our wider community.
Every recipe tells a story.
Every story adds another chapter to our shared history. If you have ever thought, "Someone should write this down," this is your opportunity.
We warmly encourage all members and their families to become involved. Your contribution may take only a short time to record, but the legacy it creates will endure for generations.
Together, we can preserve not only recipes, but also the history, traditions and memories that define who we are.
If you would like to participate in The Recipes She Carried, please click the button below and Register your interest. We look forward to working with you to preserve your family's story and ensure that this important part of our community's heritage is never lost.
Registrations close Sunday the 11th of October.
